PWWTU Fly Rod Building Class

PWWTU is excited to welcome John Mlakar as the instructor for our upcoming Fly Rod Building Class, beginning Monday, May 26, 2025

John is no stranger to our chapter. He’s not only passionate about fly rod building but also brings the technical knowledge and patience that make him a fantastic instructor for both beginners and experienced rod builders. Personally, I’ve been eager to build a new 5 wt. rod to replace my very first “adult” fly rod — and this class is the perfect opportunity to do just that.

Class Details:

Dates: Monday, May 26 and Monday, June 23

• Time: 8:00 PM – 10:00 PM

• Location: Howard’s Tavern, 98 Center Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15229

This hands-on class will walk you through the process of building your very own carbon fiber fly rod — any weight or length you prefer.

What You’ll Need:

There is no cost to participate in the class itself, but you will need to purchase your rod kit in advance.

John Mlakar can pick up your kits from H&H and save you the shipping cost. Simply mention to Ron that your kit will be picked up by John. 

Please bring your rod kit with you to the first session on May 26.
